Precision Dynamic Balancing Services

Polynetics has been serving the Western United States with production and short run balancing services since 1964. Through our history we have provided a crucial service to the manufacturing industry. Our services have been utilized by commercial as well as defense contractors. Our customers include makers of electric motors, health and fitness equipment, cryogenic processing equipment, printing equipment, pumps, aircraft, transportation equipment, agricultural equipment, and the medical industry. Being fully capable of rapid turn around including the design and manufacture of tooling for special needs, we have accumulated a long list of satisfied customers. Our role in the manufacture of such a diverse range of components and assemblies has helped us become a uniquely qualified asset to any manufacturing company.

Polynetics also sells and services the Hofmann line of precision balancing machinery. We are in a unique position to assist you in developing the tooling, techniques, and specifications for your particular application, and assist in the purchase of equipment for your in house assembly lines. We can even provide balancing of your production components until your newly purchased balancing machine is ready for delivery. Contact us at Polynetics to find out how we can assist you.

Some examples of our work...

This 900 horsepower cryogenic pump assembly is
balanced in stages so any part may be replaced
and still maintain perfect balance. The assembly
is performed by Polynetics staff using customer
provided instructions. The assembly weighs in at
over 1200 lbs.

A two-stage APU turbine engine core clearly
shows elaborate fixturing developed by Polynetics
staff to properly secure the assembly for balancing.
The 85,000 rpm operating speed requires attention
to every detail of the balancing process.

This is a 1256 pound, 1300 horsepower electric motor. It is
used in a land based cryogenic pump used to pump
liquified natural gas from supertankers. At several thousand
dollars each, bearings are a major concern in these pumps
since teardowns can cost into six digits. Polynetics can handle
up to 2000 pounds of rotating mass in its HL 19.1 horizontal
balancing machine. Detection of just a few grams of unbalance
is possible even with such large masses.

While the photo is dates circa 1967, this "spy" satellite
was balanced to help it maintain proper orbit. Notice
the eccentric false bearing journals fabricated to simulate
an artificial center of gravity. Non-gasseous metal weights
were manufactured by Polynetics to prevent
contamination of the crucial optical components
during flight.

Steam driven re-compression unit is a
shipboard recovery unit used to capture
and recompress supertanker "boil-off" vapors.
The vapors are recovered and used to run
power generation equipment and engines
in modern natural gas supertankers.

Typical centrifugal cryogenic compressor assembly
balanced for operation above 75,000 rpm.
Understanding the critical machining tolerances
employed in the manufacture of such high speed
assemblies qualifies Polynetics' staff for this type
of work better than any of our competitors.
Our well trained staff is ideally suited
for tight tolerance work.

2nd stage of a target "drone missile" was one of
two missiles used as targets during development of the
Patriot anti-missile program. Individual sections were balanced
to prevent eccentric rotation during flight. The surface is covered
by a radar absorbing material to "confuse" the guidance system
during testing. Each of the 4 stages were balanced for these tests.
They were promptly "blown out of the sky"...

Polynetics is proud to have been a part of so many various programs and projects. We feel enriched by the experiences and relationships we have shared.
